Precious Pooches

Precious Pooches

If you live in Manhattan, it is very normal to see the most adorable pampered pooches decked out in the most fashionable canine couture parading around town with their proud masters in tow.

This is exactly how I met and fell in love with "Sugar" the most adorable light cream pomeranian I had ever laid eyes on!  Her master Deborah was walking her new puppy proudly on Madison Avenue and everyone, including myself could not help but stop and admire this frisky little pooch.  Sugar weighed maybe 3 pounds at the time but carried herself like a big Golden Retriever!

Sugar is cute and she knows it.  It seems that she loves strutting her stuff while countless admirers "oohh" and "awww" at her.  Today when I was walking home from the subway, I saw Sugar and her owner again (it has been about 4 months since I last saw them on Madison) and I knew it was fate.

I immediately went home and called up Sugar's breeder and asked her to put me on the list for the next litter of white Pomeranians.  I know I should be rescuing but I just have to have one like Sugar.  I have looked in vain at the shelters and rescue organizations in vain, so what I decided to do was to get a "sugar" clone from the breeders then donate money to an animal shelter to make up for not rescuing one.  I hope I am doing the right thing!  While I am on the waiting list for the breeder, let me know if anyone knows of a dog like sugar looking for a good home because I would feel much better adopting a pup if given the choice!!

Is a Persian the Right Breed for You?

Is a Persian the Right Breed for You?

Have you ever watched a "Fancy Feast" commercial and thought to yourself "I want a beautiful Persian kitty!"? I for one have always loved cats and grew up with several different cat breeds as a child.

I have had everything from a Calico, an American short hair Tabby, a Ragdoll and even a feisty Siamese who had a meow like you would not believe, but my favorite breed thus far has been the doll-faced Persian. Doll-faced Persians or "traditional" Persians differ from the extreme peke faced variety that one usually sees on the show circuit as their faces are not as flat and pushed in which is a lot healthier and to me much more attractive.

If you want a mellow indoor cat with a sweet temperament and beauty to match, a Persian is the right breed for you. My two Persians Princess Chloe Cupcake (She loves red velvet cupcakes) and Henri-Pierre spend most of their days following me around the house or the design studio and sleeping. Sometimes they will have a burst of energy especially if I bring their laser light toy or "da bird" toy out.

They are very calm cats and always want to be near you. They love being admired and will drape themselves across your furniture like a beautiful fur coat (although I do not believe in wearing fur coats)

Despite all of their charm and beauty, they do require some up keep especially when it comes to their fur. Persians must be brushed daily to prevent their fine and luxurious hair from matting. Henri-Pierre does not mind this very much and in fact thinks of it as a little game but Chloe is an absolute terror and will attack my hand and bite me.

The only other thing I have to do for them is to clip their nails and Chloe also requires her eye area to be cleaned daily due to eye mucus and tearing which is common in Persian cats.

So if you are looking for a quiet kitty with an even, calm temperament and very sweet disposition and you don't mind a little daily grooming, the Persian cat just might be the perfect cat for you!

Pooches as Photo Props

Pooches as Photo Props

As you can see from one of the pictures from my Spring/Summer 2009 photoshoot, I've been obsessed with getting a pomeranian for awhile.

It all started when I saw sugar and her master on Madison Avenue.  For the photoshoot, I put out an ad on Craig's List to see if anyone had a cute pomeranian that I could use for a prop.  Surprisingly I got a lot of responses from all sorts of people who had very cute toy breed dogs.

I of course being the pomeranian lover than I am chose this cute pomeranian from New Jersey named "Teddy" who did an excellent job by the way.  Thank you to Dr. Ilene Moss & Dr. Leonard Moss for the kind use of your adorable dog "Teddy."
