The Best Beauty Products for Summer

The Best Beauty Products for Summer

Working in fashion means that I am lucky enough to interact with a lot of make-up artists, models and actresses regularly.  We always love sharing secrets and tips on skincare, beauty, health etc.  Here are some great products for summer that I have tried and love.

Sunscreens:

La Roche-Posay Anthelios SPF 55 for the Face or Clarins UV Plus Dayscreen SPF 40.  Currently I am alternating between these two sunscreens which are surprisingly light and does not cause me to break out.  Remember, the real secret to wrinkle free skin and age spots is keeping out of the sun and wearing a high SPF on your face and body every day!!  (This coming from my good friend who is a cosmetic dermatologist in Manhattan.)

I also like using a separate sunscreen especially formulated for the delicate eye area.  I recommend Clarins Sun Wrinkle Control Eye Contour Care SPF 30.  This is a light, oil free formula which absorbs instantly and does not sting your eyes.

Before going outside, I also slather my body with a high SPF organic sunscreen like Alba Botanica Full Spectrum UVA/UVB SPF 30 Sunscreen in Organic Lavender which has a pleasant fresh sent and is not overly sticky.

Cleansers:

During the summer, my skin tends to get oilier so I like using a foaming cleanser like Shiseido The Skincare Purifying Cleansing Foam.

Toner:

DDF Glycolic 10% Toning Complex to keep the skin exfoliated and free of those dreaded breakouts!

Make-Up Removers:

For the face, I love Crealine Bioderma Cleansing Solution a gentle French facial make-up remover to be used before cleansing the face to ensure complete removal of make-up which can cause breakouts.  I learned about this wonderful product from the runway models. It is very difficult to find in the U.S. but you can get it at any pharmacy in Paris so I stock up on a few bottles whenever I get a chance to go there!  If you can't find this, Lancome's Eau de Clari 3 in one cleanser is also great.

For the eyes, i have used Lancome's Bi-Facil for years which even removes waterproof mascara in a snap and does not sting your eyes.

During the summer when it is hot and sticky and you are hopefully making frequent visits to the beach :), a good waterproof mascara is a must.  L'Oreal's Voluminous waterproof mascara in noir is the best in regards to drugstore mascaras and I love L'Extreme Waterproof mascara in black.

Another must especially for the sweltering heat in Manhattan is a waterproof/smudgeproof eyeliner if you wear it.  The best I have tried is Bobbi Brown's Long Wearing Gel Eyeliner.  I love the chocolate shimmer ink, but whatever shade you choose (there are 16 gorgeous shades) this eyeliner will stay put until you remove it!

If you have oily or combination skin like me, you might want a dusting of powder to keep the shine away after you apply your sunscreen.  A good loose powder is Laura Mercier's Mineral Powder SPF 15.  It is sheer but still evens out your skintone and prevents the dreaded shiny face.

The absolute best concealer I have tried, and I have tried many is Kevyn Aucoin's Sensual Skin Enhancer which is $45 but lasts for years! I know it contains mineral oil which is supposed to clog pores but I have never had a problem with it! I recommend this to everyone.

That is it for now.  Please feel free to send me questions if you have any!

A Healthy & Humane way to Lose Those Extra Pounds...

A Healthy & Humane way to Lose Those Extra Pounds...

Wondering how you are going to fit into that tiny bikini this summer? Trying to squeeze into your favorite designer jeans from 3 years ago?

This book was a very straightforward and informative read on eating healthier while also being humane to our furry animal friends. Although I am not a vegan as I do eat organic dairy products and some seafood, I really enjoyed this book which has also helped me to drop those last few pounds.

There are many healthier and humane alternatives to eating meat, chicken, pork, lamb etc. I personally love adding fresh tofu to my salads to get the protein that I need to feel full and satisfied. After reading "Skinny Bitch" I have sworn off meat of any kind except for some seafood. I don't think most people realize the torturous and horrific conditions that our animals friends go through before being sent to the slaughter house.

If you are an animal lover and interested in eating healthier and losing those unwanted pounds, I definitely recommend this book as well as its follow up book entitled "Skinny Bitch in the Kitch" which has delicious and innovative recipes that anyone can make.
